Brother Jack??!
Reading the novel we have come across so many plot changes, such as, narrator’s childhood, time at university, moving to the North, but one of the biggest transitions in the novel was when Invisible Man had a surgery in the Optical White factory. That moment symbolizes rebirth of the narrator. He stopped believing in what other people have told him, such as Dr. Bledsoe and Mr. Norton.

“What and how much had I lost by trying to do what was expected of me instead of what I myself had wished to do? … I had never formed a personal attitude toward so much. I had accepted the accepted attitudes and it had made life seem simple...”

He started living his life the way he should and in the way he wants to. He started believing that economic opportunities lead to the freedom. So he was looking for the job, so that he could earn some money, pay the rent, and live freely.

Unfortunately his plans how he would live the life he wants and how he wants, did not last long, as soon as he accepted Brother Jack’s offer he was involved in Brotherhood and his freedom stopped.

Brotherhood was an organization that fought for a better world for all people, especially for the black people, they want that black and white people have equality.

“..we are working for a better world for all people… Too many have been dispossessed of their heritage, and we have banded together in brotherhood so as to do something about it.”

They work required people involved in Brotherhood to be anonymous. Every new member needed to leave everything behind them, and start living a new life with a new identity. Brotherhood gave to everyone money, clothes, place to live, office, and much more if needed. They trained people what to say and even what to think.

On the other hand Invisible Man was one more time naïve and he did not realize that he was just a tool that Brotherhood was using him. Instead he believed that joining Brotherhood will go toward advancement in the society and that joining them he serves the interest of black people. He was convinced that he will become a new Booker T. Washington.
